I directed Umbral when I was 23, right in the middle of the 2020 pandemic. Somehow, a crew of more than thirty people came together — masked, patient, and fully committed to making something that felt real in the middle of the andes mountains.
The story follows Juan Manuel, a young man quietly hiding his sexuality within a conservative world. It became my first real step into storytelling, and one that still means a lot to me. Umbral premiered at Bogoshorts in 2021 as part of the official selection, and was later acquired by Retina Latina, where it’s available to watch worldwide until December 26, 2025.
